A few common questions

What I do - and what I don't do

Can you install new parts in my computer?

Yes, I can. But if you need parts replaced or installed, you are usually better off going to a computer technician who does that work every day.

Can you recover files from a damaged hard drive?

I have recovered files from physically damaged hard drives in the past. I also know how much time that can take. I don't normally offer that service through At Your Pace Tech. For a damaged drive, I recommend a data recovery specialist.

If you would still like me to look at the drive, I take this work through my consultancy, Daemon Labs, rather than At Your Pace Tech. There is a $500 non-refundable assessment and recovery-attempt fee. If more work is needed, I will quote it separately and get your approval before I continue.

Do you work on business servers?

Yes, through my other business. I work with web, file, cache, and application servers, but I don't offer business IT work through At Your Pace Tech. If your business needs technical help, visit Daemon Labs.

Will you do my online banking or make a payment for me?

No. I can show you how a banking website or app works, but I will not make financial transactions on your behalf.

Will you need my passwords?

No. Your passwords stay yours. If a password needs to be entered, you enter it yourself. I do not keep or take custody of your passwords.

Can I call you at any time, day or night?

No. I have offered 24/7 emergency support in the past. These days, I like to spend time with my family. At Your Pace Tech is not a 24-hour emergency service.

Not sure whether I can help?

Call or email me and describe the problem in your own words. You do not need to diagnose it first.
